Editions and pricing

Decision

Three editions. What works on one machine from the repo is free; what needs a server or other people is Team; admin and security control is Enterprise.

  • Community (free, MIT): read, search, canon check, standards, MCP, the constraint pipeline, ideas, a private workspace, Markdown import, canon approve. Docs are written in your editor.
  • Team (Canon Cloud): writing and reviewing in the browser, comments, Inbox, watchers, the GitHub App, Confluence/Notion/Google Docs import, Slack/Meet/email capture, members and roles, 30 days of audit log.
  • Enterprise (yearly contract): SSO and required SSO, SCIM, locked company rules, a year of audit log with export, a dedicated instance, data region, SLA.
  • Billing: Team is per editor (anyone who can publish, review or approve); viewers are free; free up to 3 editors. Enterprise is per instance.

Why

The free edition must be useful alone, or nobody adopts it. Collaboration costs servers to run. SSO and audit are what security teams have budget for. Free readers let Canon spread inside a company.

Rejected

  • One paid Cloud tier with SSO included: gives away the part enterprises pay for.
  • Billing every member: puts a cost on reading.

Impact

Pricing, Billing and the SSO and Audit screens follow this. FEAT-0006, 0007, 0011, 0013, 0014 and 0015 name their edition. The Team price is not set.
