Trunk is a design tool

Decision

Trunk is a Figma replacement and nothing else. You give it the URL of a running product. It captures the product's pages, components, variants, icons, tokens and journey, and you edit them.

Why

• The first thing that has to work is capture.
• One surface is easy to build and easy to explain.

Impact

• One workspace surface, Design: Icons, Illustrations, Styles, Components, Pages, Journey, and Preview.
• Onboarding in four steps, with capture as the third. See onboarding-steps.
• Settings: Users, Teams, Billing. Account in the account menu.
• A marketing site that sells one thing: design on the product you already shipped.
• Everyone works in one shared file with autosave and version history. No history screen is drawn yet.
• A member has one of three access levels. See access-levels.
• Capture needs only a URL. See capture-reads-the-product.

Not settled: the plan limits (plans), and the stack. The build is planned from scratch.
