DECISION.2026-06-11.AY-SELECTOR-TAX-ONLY

AY selector is Tax-only · Expense and Portfolio use Range selector

Decision

Assessment-year (AY) selectors live only on the Tax pillar. Expense and Portfolio replace the AY selector with a Range selector (1M · 3M · 6M · 1Y · Custom, default 1Y).

Why

Tax is the only pillar where assessment-year framing is load-bearing (slabs, deductions, advance-tax due dates, ITR forms all bind to AY). Expense and Portfolio are time-series readings — "last 3 months of cashflow", "1-year net-worth trend" — and forcing them through an AY pivot creates cognitive overhead without payoff. Cross-pillar parity instead lives in the Range selector.

Impact

  • AY pills removed from /expense (locked, empty, unlocked, transactions, family, family-locked) and /portfolio (locked, unlocked-strong, unlocked-cg-booked, family, family-locked, view-only, empty, holdings) on both web and mobile surfaces.
  • Range selector becomes the only date-scoping control on these two pillars: 1M · 3M · 6M · 1Y · Custom (default 1Y).
  • Title chips that said "AY 2026-27" on Expense/Portfolio pages dropped.
  • Expense transactions filter dropdown: "AY 26-27" option replaced by "Last 6 months" + "Last 12 months".
  • .context/wiki/entities/* Expense chart spec updated (Range options · drop "Full AY" · drop AY-pivot reference). Portfolio chart spec keeps "Capital-gains-booked timeline (per AY)" — that's a data-grouping concept, not a selector. Pricing model unchanged (Self/AI Self/Pro Family still unlock per-AY at purchase; past AYs still free — but for Expense/Portfolio that gating now translates to data-range visibility, not selector chips).
  • Tax pillar wireframes unchanged — AY pills stay there.
  • Affects pillar-tax, pillar-expense, pillar-portfolio.

Status

Active.
