DECISION.2026-08-03.CORRECT-WIDGET-ORDER-ENTITY-DRIFTTax review widget order: code was right, the wiki entity was wrong
Decision
Do not move the "Your tax journey" 5-AY chart from the sidebar into the main content column. A bug-fix pass flagged the current TaxPage.tsx layout (chart in the <aside>, claimed donut first in <main>) as a defect, on the theory that pillar-tax's PILLAR.TAX.REVIEW.WIDGET-ORDER row listed the AY pivot + journey chart as main-column item (1).
Checked against the actual immutable wireframe, .context/designs/web/tax/tax.html:
- Main column is explicitly numbered 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 (comments: "1+2 · Two AY-driven charts side by side · What you claimed | Old vs new regime", "4+5 · Deductions (left) + Quick Check (right) side-by-side", "6. What you missed this year (AY-driven · belongs in main)").
- The tax-journey chart is not in that numbered sequence. It's explicitly commented
<!-- Your tax journey · 5-AY absolute history (not range-driven · belongs in aside) -->inside the<aside>block, right after the AY selector and before the "Pick your CA path" card (commented<!-- 7. ... belongs in aside -->).
apps/website/src/app/(app)/tax/components/TaxPage.tsx's current layout matches the wireframe exactly: ClaimedCard + RegimeCard first, WaterfallCard + QuickCheckCard second, MissedDeductionsCard third — all in <main>; AySelector + TaxJourneySidebar + CaPathCard in <aside>. The wiki entity's ordering claim was the thing that had drifted, not the code. Reordering the code to match the wiki would have introduced a real regression against the design.
Per .context/wiki/CLAUDE.md, raw sources under .context/designs/ are immutable and canonical; the wiki is synthesised from them. Corrected PILLAR.TAX.REVIEW.WIDGET-ORDER and the tax-pillar "six canonical widgets" list to describe the actual (and correct) layout instead.
Why
Caught while implementing an audit-flagged "widget order divergence" fix. The audit's finding (chart renders in the sidebar, not first in main) was accurate as an observation but wrong as a diagnosis — it assumed the wiki was the source of truth without checking the underlying wireframe.
Impact
- No code change.
apps/website/src/app/(app)/tax/components/TaxPage.tsxis unchanged. - pillar-tax —
PILLAR.TAX.REVIEW.WIDGET-ORDERrewritten to describe the main-column/sidebar split correctly. - tax-pillar — "Review is six canonical widgets, in order" list rewritten to match.
