FLOW.FIRST-DOCUMENT-UPLOADFlow — First document upload (free tier)
Summary
A free-tier user drops their first PDF into the Inbox; the parser runs (or queues for upgrade), and the user confirms the extracted fields so the document can flow into its pillar.
Audience
end-user
Entry
Dashboard or inbox-empty empty-state CTA.
Steps
| # | Step | Surface | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Inbox empty | inbox-empty | "Start here · 3 docs" guidance |
| 2 | User drops PDF | inbox-uploading | Progress + parse status; opens via upload-modal |
| 3 | Parse complete | review-document | Source PDF + extracted fields side-by-side; per upload-only and no-manual-entry |
| 4a | Confidence high → fields auto-confirmed | review-document | One-tap "Confirm" (green chip) |
| 4b | Confidence low / required fields | review-confirm-doc | User taps each field; correct via re-upload only |
| 5 | Confirmed document flows to its pillar | pillar-inbox → pillar-tax / pillar-expense / pillar-portfolio | See inbox-document-types for registered parsers |
Exit
At least one confirmed document visible in Inbox; fields flow into the appropriate pillar review.
Escapes
- Parse failure (low OCR / locked PDF / schema mismatch): review-document-failed with action prompt (re-upload sharper, unlock with PAN+DOB, contact support).
- Free-tier "parses on upgrade": doc shows review-document-view-only until user upgrades; see freemium-per-ay and document-lifecycle-upgrade-backfill.
- AIS confirmation prompt: if document is AIS-shaped, user goes through review-confirm-ais instead of review-confirm-doc.
