Lessons come from the GitHub API, several docs still say clone

Finding

Since commit fd14374 the server reads courses through the GitHub API and keeps no clone. Several documents still describe the clone, and some of them treat this work as not started.

Proof

apps/server/src/lib/git/git.service.ts uses getTree and getContent. No clone, simple-git or readLocalFile appears in it, and apps/server/src reads neither REPO_STORAGE_PATH nor REPO_CACHE_DIR.

Still saying otherwise:

  • course-as-code and hosting.
  • .claude/rules/50-content-model.md and the root CLAUDE.md.
  • ops/runbooks/deployment.md.
  • Tasks T003 and T007 in tasks.md.
  • FEAT-0012 and FEAT-0009.

architecture/architecture.json has it right.

Verified by

Reading the code and git log on 2026-11-02. Not checked on the deployed API.

What it means

Do not start task 5.10 as written. What is left of it is the cache. Whether that still blocks monetization is for the owner to decide.

Evidence

  • Commit fd14374.
  • Commit 36a40dc, which says the runtime moved off local clones.
