Why it is drawn this way

Type a name, press Create, and you have a working group. Forcing member selection before the group exists is the reason group-creation funnels leak.

There is no Type picker — the category and cover come from the name. See categories.

The currency choice is gated BEFORE people and before any expense. Nobody should enter a trip's worth of bills and then meet a paywall; and the currency is fixed once the group has an expense, because re-denominating integers in a minor unit would need a rate. See money-in-minor-units.

It starts on the home currency, not on rupees. Somebody who lives in euros makes euro groups, and re-picking it for every trip is the kind of small tax that makes a setting feel decorative.

Contacts come before the name field, because picking from the address book is both faster and better data: it carries numbers, which is what makes the person matchable to a real account later. Typing a name gives a placeholder that can never become anyone.

The picker is inline, not a destination. This used to push an "Add people" screen and pop back — a whole navigation round trip to collect one field of the form you are already standing in.

A person IS created here, unlike on balances-search. Putting somebody in a group is the commitment: their name and number go into the group document so the other members can tell whose row is whose.
