One group: what you stand at, who owes whom, and what was spent.

Why it is drawn this way
The order is the order people actually ask in. What do I stand at, then who owes whom, then what was spent. Group gross spend is trivia and never leads.
The cover gradient is keyed to the group's category, which is derived from its NAME. The Type picker it replaced — Trip / Home / Food / Other — admitted in its own help text that it set the cover colour and the default category and "nothing else": a decision asked of somebody who came here to split a trip, in exchange for a colour. See categories.
Settle lives on the MEMBER row. This is the only place the person is already decided; the header used to carry one Settle button for a group of five, which opened a picker listing the same people already on screen.
There is no Simplify toggle on this screen. It is a group SETTING, agreed once, because simplification rewrites who pays whom for everybody — five members flipping it on their own copy is five people reading five different instructions for one set of debts. There used to be two controls over the one behaviour and nobody could say which won. See group-settings.
With Simplify off the screen still says what it would change, rather than showing a second answer nobody asked for.
The empty state is TWO states. "Everyone's square here" is an achievement — green, and deliberately with no call to action, because reaching it is the goal rather than a gap to fill. The expenses block below it is the instructive one and carries the only CTA.
Member balances are scoped to this group. A global net under a group's name would not add up to the group's own total shown above it.
