Why it is drawn this way

A record, not an album. The calorie figure sits on each tile rather than under it, because a grid of food pictures with no numbers is a mood board and this app is not that.

A meal logged without a photo still happened. Search and barcode entries are shown as a gap rather than omitted, so a day of four meals does not read as a day of three.

The gallery holds a tab. It used to live off Trends, and both this page and trends carried the sentence "the gallery lives off Trends rather than taking a sixth tab" long after it stopped being true. (tabs)/_layout.tsx records what happened: "Add" held the fourth slot and was an action wearing a destination's clothes, Home now offers all three ways in above the log, and Gallery took the freed slot — a real destination that had been buried two levels down. The bar is still five slots with the capture button in the middle; nothing was added.

Empty — no photos yet

Distinct from photo, and the difference matters. This user has nothing to fix — they simply have not scanned anything. So the screen offers the camera and says nothing about settings: an empty state that explains a setting the user never changed reads as an accusation.

It also names the one thing that produces photos. Search and barcode are the paths that do not.
