Why it is drawn this way

The opponent is a toggle at the top, and each opponent is its own screen. The fields below it differ: a computer game asks for a level and a colour, a friend game asks how the board should face. Neither is a state in the closed set, so they are two files.

The level says what the computer does, not how hard it feels. The three lines are read from src/lib/ai.ts: Easy plays a random legal move, Medium plays its best move six times in ten, Hard always plays its best move. The current app says "Master level difficulty" for a search two to three moves deep. See difficulty.

You can play Black. The current app fixes the human as White. A player who only ever plays White learns half the game. Random is offered because that is how a casual game between two people is decided.

The clock is optional and defaults to the last choice. No clock is a real option, not an absence: most casual games against a computer are untimed. The four choices are a proposal, not a measured set.

Start game is pinned. The choices above it scroll on a small phone; the button never does.

No banner here. The player is making choices, and an ad beside a decision reads as part of it. See ads.
