Purpose

What Chitragupt is for, who it is for, and what it is not. From the repo's own pages.

What it is

A tax and money app for Indian filers. The user uploads documents such as Form 16 and bank statements. From them the app says which ITR form to file and which tax regime saves more, and what to do next. Every number traces to a source document and every rule cites its section (what-we-sell, upload-only). It has four pillars: Inbox, Tax, Expense and Portfolio (four-pillars). It answers PROB-0002.

Who it is for

Individual filers in India on ITR-1 to ITR-4, and households of up to 6 PANs (audience, family-workspace).

What it is not

• Not a filing tool: it never files a return. A Tax Review ends with a CA (filing-scope).
• Not a form to type into: no money value is typed by hand (product-scope).
• Not a subscription for the engine: it unlocks per assessment year, with one payment (freemium-per-ay).
• Not for HUFs, firms, companies, trusts or NRIs (audience).
• In V1, no CA marketplace, no KYC and no email forwarding (product-scope).

Status

The web app is live at chitragupt.ai (0.1.4, owner, 2026-11-01). The Android app is on the internal track only (release.yml). Words used here: glossary.
