DECISION.2026-07-27.NO-COMMUNITY-NO-MARKETPLACEDecision — No community, no marketplace
Decision
Pattaya will not build a community/forum/UGC surface. Pattaya will not build a doctor or product marketplace. Monetization is B2C household subscription with a B2B2C future.
Why
India's parenting-content graveyard:
- Momspresso — acquired by Mamaearth 2021 for INR 152.3 Cr (INR 136 Cr pure goodwill; net asset value only INR 16.2 Cr). MyMoney micro-influencer unit shut April 2023; brand marketing vertical winding down. (Source: Inc42.)
- TinyStep — acquired distressed by BabyChakra in March 2022. Content-only economics failed.
- BabyChakra — itself acquired defensively into a DTC brand rollup, not for standalone community economics.
Global signal:
- Peanut — real community but monetization struggles; not a category leader.
- What to Expect / BabyCenter — free + ads; ad-supported model puts them at odds with user trust in a medical-adjacent context.
Marketplace-adjacent risks:
- Doctor booking = liability exposure + operational complexity + commission conflicts.
- Product marketplace = becomes the tail wagging the dog (Momspresso lesson) and puts editorial in conflict with commerce.
Impact
- ai-not-community concept created
- No forum, feed, DMs, follows, upvotes, or commenting surfaces
- No doctor booking; doctor referral is a link-out only (flow-knowledge-to-doctor-referral)
- No product marketplace; no rev-share affiliate content
- Subscription is the only revenue path in Year 1 (B2C household)
- Ads are permanently rejected
Status
Active.
