SURFACE.MOBILE.SETTINGS.HOW-TO-PLAY

Summary

The rules of chess, as this app plays them.

Raw wireframe

  • .context/designs/mobile/settings/how-to-play.html

Why it is drawn this way

It lists the rules the engine enforces, and only those. Castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate, stalemate, the fifty-move rule and insufficient material are all in src/lib/game.ts. Threefold repetition is not, so it is not listed. See rules.

Each piece is shown. The row carries the piece from the set the board uses, so the name and the shape are learned together.

Castling carries all its conditions. It is the rule players get wrong, and the app refuses the move without saying why.

The back arrow goes to Home in the wireframe. The screen is reached from Home, Settings and the pause sheet; in the app, back returns to whichever it came from.
