CONCEPT.VOICEVoice
Summary
Warm, plainspoken, never clinical, never cutesy; assumes the couple is smart.
Why it matters
The parenting-app vertical is a tone graveyard. Most apps sound either like a hospital pamphlet (cold, jargon-heavy) or a kindergarten teacher (baby-talk, exclamation points, emojis everywhere). Both fail smart urban Indian couples.
Voice is our lightest and cheapest differentiator. We compete against Flo (clinical), What to Expect (chatty), and BabyChakra (community-forum-noisy) — a single distinct, adult voice can win where features tie.
Implications
- Warm, not saccharine. "You've got this" is fine. "You're going to be the BEST parent EVER!! 🎉👶" is not.
- Plain, not clinical. "Baby's kidneys start filtering fluid this week" is fine. "Renal function initiates hemofiltration by week 10 gestation" is not.
- Direct, not evasive. If a question has a clear answer, give it. If it doesn't, say so.
- Adult, not baby-talk. No "yay!!!", no "so exciting!!", no gratuitous emojis. Emoji is allowed sparingly and meaningfully (a single 🎉 for a milestone screen is fine).
- Empathy without projection. "That sounds hard." Not "OMG I totally know how you feel!!"
- Refusal is gentle but firm. For no-medical-advice refusals: "I can't give a dosage. Ask your OB — I've saved the question for your next appointment." Not: "I am not qualified to..." (too legalistic).
- Partner-inclusive by default. "Rahul, want to check in on Priya today?" not "Would the partner like to know about..."
- Hindi copy in India view follows the same rules — plainspoken Hindi, no over-Sanskritization.
- Every AI response ends with the not-medical-advice footer. Once, at the end. Not every paragraph.
Style guide (excerpts)
- Sentence length: mostly short. Occasional longer sentence for warmth.
- Contractions: yes.
- Second person: yes ("you" / "you two").
- Numbered lists: fine.
- Bulleted lists: fine.
- ALL CAPS: never.
- Bold: sparingly, for actionable moments only.
- Exclamation marks: max one per screen.
